Quiz Builder Interface Overview

The Uplup Quiz Builder is organized into five tabs across the top — Create, Logic, Connect, Share, and Results — and three workspace areas inside the Create tab.

Top Tab Bar

  • Create — Build your quiz: add pages, drag in question types, write content, configure scoring
  • Logic — Define conditional branching, jump rules, and personality outcome routing
  • Connect — Wire up CRM integrations, email tools, webhooks, Zapier, n8n, and MCP
  • Share — Get the public quiz URL, generate embed code, and customize the social preview
  • Results — View analytics, individual submissions, drop-off, and export data

The top right also contains the AI Assistant button (use natural language to generate or edit quiz content), Preview, and Save.

Left Sidebar (Build Tools)

The left sidebar contains an Add Page button at the top, then three accordion sections:

  • Questions — All available question types. Click or drag a type onto your canvas to add it.
  • Design — Theme picker, color palette, fonts, background, and the AI Theme Studio.
  • Security — Password protection, submission limits, VPN blocking, and spam settings.

Center Canvas

The center area shows a live preview of the current page. The page selector (“Page 1 / 5”, with arrow controls) sits at the top — quizzes can have unlimited pages. Click any question to select it; its settings appear in the right panel.

Right Settings Panel

The right panel updates based on what you have selected. For a question, you’ll see two sections:

  • Scoring — Mark the correct answer(s), set point value, configure partial credit (for multi-answer questions), and add a hint or explanation
  • Field Settings — Question-type-specific options like display style (Classic / Card / Button), required toggle, custom error message, and placeholder text

The current quiz type (e.g. Scored Quiz) is shown as a badge near the top of the canvas, alongside the page-navigation control.

Quiz Types: Scored, Percentage, Pass/Fail & Personality

Uplup supports four quiz types. You pick one when you create the quiz, and the choice determines how scoring works and what the result page looks like.

🎯 Scored

Score based on total points earned. Each question carries a point value (default 1, configurable per question). The result page shows the total points along with a pass/fail indicator if you have set a passing score.

Best for: trivia, knowledge tests, leaderboard quizzes, gamified onboarding.

📊 Percentage

Scores are displayed as a percentage of the total possible points. Useful for standardized assessments where different quizzes may have different numbers of questions, or when you want a normalized score.

Best for: graded coursework, training assessments, certification practice tests.

✅ Pass / Fail

Set a passing threshold (defaults to 70%). Quiz takers see a clear “Pass” or “Fail” outcome on the result page. Great for certifications, compliance training, and prerequisite checks.

Best for: compliance training, certifications, screening quizzes, qualifying assessments.

🧠 Personality

No right or wrong answers. Each answer contributes to one or more outcome categories, and the quiz routes the taker to the matching personality result. Each result page can have its own image, copy, and call to action.

Best for: “What type of X are you?” quizzes, product recommendation quizzes, lead-magnet quizzes, brand engagement.

Partial Credit

Partial credit is a per-question setting (not a separate quiz type) that’s available on multi-answer questions like Checkbox. When enabled, you can choose between two scoring modes:

  • Proportional scoring — Quiz taker earns points equal to (correct selections ÷ total correct) × question points. Selecting an incorrect option reduces the credit proportionally.
  • All-or-nothing — Full points only if every correct option is selected and no incorrect options are.

Partial credit works in the Scored, Percentage, and Pass/Fail quiz types. It does not apply to Personality quizzes (there are no “correct” answers).

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions can I add to a quiz?

There’s no hard limit on the number of questions or pages. For best completion rates, we recommend keeping individual pages short and using multi-page breaks with progress indicators on longer assessments.

Can I randomize questions?

Yes — you can randomize both question order and answer-option order. This helps prevent cheating when the same quiz is taken by multiple people. See Quiz Settings for configuration details.

Can quiz takers see the correct answers?

You control what quiz takers see on the results page. You can show correct answers immediately after each question, only after quiz completion, or hide them entirely. You can also add explanations for why each answer is correct. See Results & Outcomes.

Can I limit quiz attempts?

Yes. You can allow unlimited retakes, limit to a specific number of attempts, or allow only one attempt. You can also choose whether to keep the best score across attempts or the most recent. See Quiz Settings.

How do I prevent cheating?

Uplup offers several anti-cheating features: question randomization, answer shuffling, time limits (overall and per question), password protection, VPN blocking, and submission limits. See Quiz Security.

Can I use AI to build a quiz?

Yes. The AI Assistant button (top right of the builder) lets you generate a complete quiz from a single prompt and edit any question in natural language. AI generation is limited to 10 quizzes per month on the Free plan and unlimited on Pro and Business.

Can I see detailed analytics?

Yes. The Results tab provides detailed quiz analytics including overall completion rates, score distribution, time spent, question-level performance (identify difficult questions), drop-off, and individual attempt details. You can export data to CSV. See Analyzing Quiz Results.
