Create Your First Quiz – Uplup Quiz Builder Guide

This step-by-step guide walks you through creating your first quiz with Uplup. In just a few minutes, you’ll have an engaging, scored quiz ready to share with your audience.

Step 1: Access the Quiz Builder

From your Uplup dashboard, click the “Create New” button in the top navigation or sidebar. From the dropdown menu, select “Quiz” to open the quiz builder.

Choose either a conversational or classic quiz:

  • What to capture: The dashboard with “Create New” button and dropdown.
  • Show: The “Quiz” option highlighted in the dropdown.

Step 2: Choose Your Starting Point

You have several options to start building your quiz:

Option A: Start from Scratch

Select “Blank Quiz” to start with an empty canvas. You’ll choose your scoring mode later.

Option B: Use a Template

Browse the template library for pre-built quizzes. Templates include questions, scoring, and styling that you can customize.

Option C: Use AI to Generate

Describe your quiz topic in plain language, and the AI assistant will generate a complete quiz for you. For example: “Create a 10-question trivia quiz about world geography with multiple choice questions.”

Step 3: Add Questions

The quiz builder has three main areas:

  • Left Sidebar – Question type library
  • Center Canvas – Live preview of your quiz
  • Right Panel – Settings for the selected question

To add a question, drag and drop a question type from the left sidebar onto your quiz canvas. You can also click a question type to add it.

Popular Question Types

  1. Multiple Choice – User selects one answer from several options
  2. True/False – Simple two-option questions
  3. Checkboxes – User can select multiple correct answers
  4. Fill in the Blank – User types the correct answer

Step 4: Set Correct Answers & Points

Click any question to select it. The right panel displays configuration options.

Setting the Correct Answer

  1. Write your question text in the Question field
  2. Add answer options (click “+ Add Option” for more)
  3. Click the checkbox next to the correct answer(s)
  4. A green checkmark indicates the correct answer

Setting Point Values

By default, each question is worth 1 point. Change this in the Points field to weight questions differently.

Adding Explanations (Optional)

Add an Explanation to help quiz takers understand why an answer is correct. This appears on the results page.

  • What to capture: A selected question with the right panel visible.
  • Show: Question text, answer options with correct answer marked, Points field, and Explanation field.

Step 5: Configure Scoring

Click Settings in the left sidebar and go to the Scoring tab.

Scoring Mode Options

  • Points – Show total points earned (e.g., “8/10 points”)
  • Percentage – Show as percentage (e.g., “80%”)
  • Pass/Fail – Show pass or fail status based on threshold
  • Personality – Match users to outcomes (no right/wrong answers)

Other Scoring Settings

  • Passing Score – Set the minimum score to pass (for Pass/Fail mode)
  • Partial Credit – Award partial points for multi-select questions
  • Show Score – Toggle score display on results page

Step 6: Customize the Design

Click the “Design” tab in the top navigation to access styling options.

Quick Customization

  • Theme Presets – Choose from 24 one-click themes
  • Primary Color – Accent color for buttons and highlights
  • Background – Solid color, gradient, or image
  • Font – Choose from 150+ font families

Step 7: Configure Results

In Settings, go to the Results tab to configure what quiz takers see after completing.

Results Display Options

  • Show Score – Display the final score/percentage
  • Show Correct Answers – Reveal correct answers (always, after submit, or never)
  • Show Explanations – Display answer explanations
  • Show Detailed Breakdown – Show each question with result

Retake Settings

  • Allow Retakes – Let quiz takers try again
  • Max Attempts – Limit number of attempts
  • Cooldown Period – Time between retakes

Step 8: Publish & Share

Click the “Publish” tab to publish and share your quiz.

Sharing Options

  • Direct Link – Copy the quiz URL to share via email, social media, or messaging
  • Social Sharing – Quick share to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp
  • Embed Code – Add the quiz to your website using script or iframe embed
  • Custom URL – Create a memorable, branded URL slug
  • What to capture: The Share tab with sharing options.
  • Show: Quiz URL with copy button, social media icons, and embed code section.


Step 9: View Results

Once your quiz receives responses, view results in the “Results” tab.

What You Can See

  • Summary Statistics – Total attempts, average score, pass rate
  • Individual Attempts – Click any row for full details
  • Analytics – Performance trends, geographic data, user behavior
  • Export Data – Download results as CSV

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit my quiz after publishing?

Yes! Changes are saved automatically and reflected immediately. Note: Changing correct answers won’t retroactively rescore existing results.

Can quiz takers see the correct answers?

You control this in Results settings. Options: show always (instant feedback), show after completion, or hide entirely.

Can I randomize questions?

Yes. In Settings, enable question randomization to show questions in different order for each quiz taker.

How do I create a personality quiz?

Set the Scoring Mode to “Personality”. Instead of marking correct answers, you’ll map each answer option to a personality type/outcome. See Scoring Modes Explained.

Can I limit retakes?

Yes. In Settings → Retakes, set maximum attempts or disable retakes entirely.
