Scoring Types Overview
When you create a new quiz, Uplup asks you to pick a scoring type before the builder opens. The type controls how answers are evaluated and how the result is shown to the quiz taker. All four types share the same builder, question fields, and design tools.

| Scoring Type | Has Correct Answers? | Result Display | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scored | Yes | “8/10 points” | Trivia, gamified quizzes |
| Percentage | Yes | “80%” | Knowledge tests, training |
| Pass/Fail | Yes | “Passed” or “Failed” | Certifications, compliance |
| Personality | No | Matched outcome | Product finders, personality tests |
Changing the Scoring Type Later
- Open your quiz in the builder (Create tab).
- Click the scoring-type pill (e.g. “Scored Quiz”) in the top toolbar, next to the page indicator.
- The Quiz Settings dialog opens on the Scoring tab. Click Change to swap to a different type, then Save Changes.

Scored
Each answer earns points. Quiz takers see a total score at the end.
How It Works
- Each question has a point value (default: 1 point).
- Correct answers earn full points. Use Partial credit (with proportional scoring) on multi-select questions to award fractional points.
- Results display the total, e.g. “You scored 8/10 points”.
Best Use Cases
- Trivia quizzes
- Gamified learning
- Engagement quizzes with leaderboard-style ranking
Recommended Settings
- Show correct answers after each question for instant feedback.
- Create result pages with different messages for different score ranges.
- Allow retakes to keep people engaged.
Percentage
Show the score as a percentage of the maximum, like 80 out of 100.
How It Works
- Score is calculated as (points earned / total points) × 100.
- Results show the percentage, e.g. “You scored 80%”, alongside a points breakdown.
Best Use Cases
- Knowledge assessments
- Training evaluations
- Academic-style tests
- Standardized comparisons across many takers
Pass/Fail
Set a passing score. People either pass or they don’t.
How It Works
- Set a passing threshold (for example 70%).
- Scores at or above the threshold display “Passed”.
- Scores below display “Failed”. The score is still shown alongside the result.
Configuring Pass/Fail
- In Quiz Settings, change the Scoring Mode to Pass/Fail.
- Set the Passing Score threshold.
- Choose whether the threshold is a percentage or a raw point value.
Best Use Cases
- Certification exams
- Compliance training verification
- Qualification screening
- License or permit prep
Recommended Settings
- Hide correct answers to prevent answer sharing.
- Limit retake attempts and add a cooldown between attempts.
- Create separate result pages for pass and fail outcomes.
Personality
Match quiz takers to a personality type based on how they answer. There are no right or wrong answers.
How It Works
- Define personality types or outcomes (for example “The Adventurer”, “The Analyst”).
- For each question, map every answer option to one personality type.
- Each chosen answer adds a vote toward its mapped type.
- The taker sees the personality type with the most votes.
Setting Up Personality Types
- In Quiz Settings, set the Scoring Mode to Personality.
- Add a personality type, then set:
- Name (for example “The Explorer”)
- Description shown on the result screen
- Color and (optional) image
- Add 2 to 8 personality types.
Mapping Answers to Personalities
- Select a question in the builder.
- In the right-hand Field Settings panel, find Answer Mapping.
- Pick which personality type each answer option maps to.
- Repeat for every question.
Best Use Cases
- “What type of X are you?” quizzes
- Product recommendation finders
- Career assessments and learning style quizzes
- Lead generation with built-in segmentation
Example: Product Finder
Personality types: Budget Buyer, Quality Seeker, Trend Follower, Eco-Conscious.
Question: “What matters most when shopping?”
- “Getting the best price” maps to Budget Buyer.
- “Long-lasting quality” maps to Quality Seeker.
- “Latest styles and trends” maps to Trend Follower.
- “Sustainable materials” maps to Eco-Conscious.
