Twenty minutes on the clock, ten graded questions, and a score out of 100 at the end: that is what a student sees. What you see as the course owner is a marked attempt from every taker, with no grading work on your side. The template arrives ready to run for a research methods unit and stays fully editable, so you can swap in your own syllabus content while keeping the timing and scoring machinery intact. It is free to use with an Uplup account.
Four question formats across ten questions The 10 questions mix single choice, multiple choice with more than one correct answer, true or false statements, and a fill in the blank item. One asks "According to the course material, what is the primary purpose of a hypothesis in scientific research?" while another has students compute a z-score from a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. Every question carries 10 points, so no single topic can dominate the grade.
Takers may skip an item they are unsure about, but back navigation is switched off, which keeps the attempt moving forward and makes the 20 minute limit meaningful. A progress indicator shows how far through the set they are, and the countdown stays visible the whole time. When the timer reaches zero, the attempt submits on its own.
How the grade comes together Scoring runs on points: 100 in total, with 70 needed to pass. Nothing is revealed mid-quiz, so students cannot work out the answer key partway through an attempt. After submission, each question shows a written explanation of the correct answer, which turns the assessment into a study aid rather than just a gate. Retakes are permitted in the template's default settings, a sensible choice for practice exams, and you can switch them off for a formal sitting.
On your side, the response dashboard lists every attempt with its score, and question-level stats reveal which concepts the class is missing. Export results to CSV for your gradebook, or push attempts into other tools through webhooks and Zapier.
Sharing it with a class or cohort Send the quiz by direct link in your LMS announcements or email, print a QR code on a handout, or embed it straight into a course page with the snippet Uplup generates. Courses hosted on WordPress can use the Uplup plugin's shortcode to place the quiz inside any post or page. Add your institution's logo and color scheme so the assessment reads as part of the course, not a third-party detour.
Who Is This Template For?
This template works for a wide range of goals and industries.
End-of-module exam for an online course
Close out a unit with a timed, points-scored check that grades itself. The 20 minute limit and auto-submit keep every attempt comparable, and the 70 point pass line gives you a clear completion criterion for the module.
Certification practice test
Retakes are on by default, so learners preparing for a certification can attempt the assessment repeatedly, read the explanation attached to each question, and watch their score climb toward the pass mark before the real exam.
Baseline check before a cohort starts
Run the assessment in week zero to see what an incoming group already knows. Question-level stats show which of the 10 topics need full lectures and which need only a refresher, before you commit teaching time.

Key Features
Visible countdown with auto-submit
A 20 minute limit ticks down on screen while students work, and the attempt submits itself the moment time expires. Adjust or disable the timer in settings if your exam needs a different pace.
Four question types with written explanations
Single choice, multiple choice, true or false, and fill in the blank items keep the assessment from being a pure recognition test. Each question includes an explanation students see after submitting.
Points scoring with a built-in pass mark
Every question is worth 10 points toward a 100 point total, and 70 points passes. Scores land in your response dashboard automatically, ready for CSV export or a webhook push to your other tools.
