VS Fyrebox

Mix every question type, skip the credit math.

Fyrebox has a fair claim to being the easiest quiz maker around: pick a format, hand ChatGPT a topic, embed the result anywhere. The trade for that simplicity is meters, on quizzes, questions per quiz, AI credits, and responses, plus one question format per quiz. Uplup is the Fyrebox alternative for the day those meters start deciding things for you: unlimited quizzes with every type mixable in one build, 1,000 responses for $29, and no credits to count. Everything below comes from pages we checked today, with the rows Fyrebox wins printed exactly as we found them.

When to pick which

Pick Uplup when

  • You want one quiz that mixes question types; Fyrebox locks each quiz to a single format chosen at creation.
  • You need volume: 1,000 responses for $29/mo against 25 a month on Fyrebox’s $9 Basic plan.
  • You’d rather have unlimited AI generation than a monthly credit allowance of 3 to 150.
  • You want forms and surveys in the same account as your quizzes, unlimited on every plan.
  • You need webhooks or a public REST API; Fyrebox advertises neither.

What Fyrebox Premium buys

Fyrebox calls its paid plans Premium, and the meters stack up fast: quizzes, questions per quiz, AI credits, responses, and a payment fee that shrinks as you climb. Prices below are in USD from their live page; the yearly toggle saves up to 17% versus paying monthly.

  • Free: $0. 3 quizzes with 10 questions each, 3 AI credits a month, 100 responses (no period stated), Zapier and ChatGPT generation included, the Fyrebox logo on your quizzes, and in-quiz payments at a 20% fee.
  • Basic: $9/mo, or $90 a year. 10 quizzes, 50 questions each, 15 AI credits, the logo removed, and the payment fee down to 10%. The odd line on their table: responses are listed at 25 a month, less than the free plan shows.
  • Standard: $24/mo, or $240 a year, their "Most Popular" pick. Unlimited quizzes and responses, 100 questions per quiz, 35 AI credits, and the feature layer: certificates, score rules, multi-scoring, question bank, statistics, Facebook Pixel, and cadenced quizzes.
  • Pro: $39/mo, or $390 a year. 250 questions per quiz, 60 AI credits, a 0% payment fee (Stripe’s own fees still apply), direct integrations, instant translation, Google Analytics, and multiple users with 5 subaccounts. US subscribers currently get a free mug thrown in.
  • Pro (Team): $99/mo, or $990 a year. The same feature column as Pro with the AI allowance raised to 150 credits a month.
  • Against that: Uplup’s $29 Pro carries unlimited quizzes, unlimited AI, and 1,000 pooled responses a month, and Business at $79 adds 10,000 responses with overage billing, a custom domain, and 5 seats.

Fyrebox displays annual plans as rounded per-month figures; the raw yearly totals above come from the page itself. Their site doesn’t say whether the free plan’s 100 responses reset monthly, and no plan states what happens when you hit a cap, so we claim nothing about either. All paid plans carry a 7-day free trial and can be cancelled at any time.

Uplup vs Fyrebox, feature by feature

Both columns were filled in from pages loaded on the fact-check date: Fyrebox’s premium page, integrations page, and help docs on their side, Uplup’s plans on ours. Where Fyrebox comes out ahead the cell says so, and where their site publishes nothing we write that instead of guessing.

Which one fits your situation

These are the five buyers we most often see weighing this pair, each with a plain recommendation and the reasoning behind it.

Either works

Small business wanting a dead-simple quiz on the website this week

Fyrebox openly optimizes for being the easiest quiz maker you can pick up: choose a format, hand ChatGPT a topic, embed the result. Uplup’s AI builder is just as quick, and its free plan takes in 50 responses a month without switching anything off. Try both free tiers in the same hour and keep whichever builder feels lighter in your hands, because at this scale neither price tag matters yet.

Stay put

Educators running live classes, revision quizzes, and certifications

Fyrebox has quietly assembled a classroom toolkit: cadenced quizzes let you control when the whole room advances to the next question, question banks serve each student a random subset, and finishers download a certificate. Uplup answers with proper grading, pass/fail thresholds, partial credit, and answer explanations, but it has no live pacing and no certificates. If you teach in real time, Fyrebox Standard at $24/mo is the better fit.

Stay put

Anyone whose audience spans several languages

Fyrebox’s docs put it at 104 available languages, and the Pro plan adds instant quiz translation plus automatic matching to each visitor’s browser language. That’s a genuine specialty, and Uplup advertises no equivalent. If one quiz has to greet readers in Spanish, German, and Japanese without you rebuilding it three times, Fyrebox Pro at $39/mo earns its price.

Pick Uplup

Lead-gen starter proving a quiz funnel before spending real money

Fyrebox’s free tier shows 100 responses, and its $9 Basic tier lists just 25 a month, which ends an experiment before it produces a readable result. Uplup’s free plan collects 50 responses every month with all four scoring modes and the email gate included, and the $29 Pro step carries 1,000. You find out whether the funnel works before a plan cap decides for you.

Pick Uplup

Teams and agencies running quizzes at volume

Fyrebox’s team option is Pro (Team) at $99/mo, which mostly buys 150 AI credits a month and 5 subaccounts on top of the Pro column. Uplup Business runs $79/mo with 10,000 responses that meter overage instead of stopping, a custom domain, HubSpot and Salesforce connections, and 5 seats. More capacity for $20 less, plus webhooks and an API for client reporting, is a straightforward call at this scale.

Where each one earns it

The case for Uplup

  • Mix every question type and scoring mode in a single quiz, on every plan
  • 1,000 responses for $29/mo; Fyrebox’s $9 Basic plan lists 25 a month
  • Unlimited AI on Pro: no credits to count, and inputs include URLs, PDFs, images, and documents
  • Forms and surveys next to quizzes, all unlimited, free plan included
  • Four scoring modes with partial credit, per-question points, and answer explanations
  • Webhooks plus a public REST API at $29/mo; Fyrebox advertises neither

What both ship

  • AI quiz generation from a short prompt
  • Free plans you can genuinely launch on
  • A one-question-at-a-time quiz experience (card mode on Uplup)
  • Lead capture in front of the results screen
  • Mailchimp, HubSpot, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign and more, plus Zapier
  • Stripe payments: on every Fyrebox plan with a fee, on Uplup forms from Pro

No spin: where Fyrebox wins

  • Cadenced quizzes: real-time control over when participants advance (Standard and up); Uplup has no live-paced mode
  • Instant quiz translation and browser-language matching across 104 languages (Pro)
  • AI narration that clones your voice, with optional avatar video clips
  • Downloadable certificates, question bank sampling, and PowerPoint export (Standard and up)
  • Branding removal at $9/mo, and in-quiz payments on every plan including Free

Our straight answer

Run the numbers per response and the cheap plan stops looking cheap: Fyrebox Basic charges $9 for 25 responses a month while Uplup Pro charges $29 for 1,000, roughly 36 cents per response against 3. That gap, plus quizzes that can finally mix question types and AI without a credit meter, decides it for lead generation and most business use. The wins Fyrebox keeps are real: cadenced pacing for live rooms, certificates, and quizzes that translate themselves into 104 languages make it the stronger pick for teachers and multilingual audiences. Both columns above came off pages we loaded today, so nothing here rests on our word alone.

Switching from Fyrebox, end to end

The whole move usually fits in an afternoon, and the biggest task is a satisfying one: merging the quizzes Fyrebox made you split by format back into a single quiz.

  1. 1

Export your participant reports before anything else

Fyrebox keeps a per-participant report for every quiz and lets you export responses to Excel; pull those files down for each active quiz while your subscription is still running. Contacts already synced to Mailchimp, HubSpot, or wherever your list lives stay put, so the export is your archive of scores, answers, and time-spent data.

  2. 2

Merge your split quizzes back into one

Because Fyrebox locks each quiz to a single format, many accounts end up with two or three quizzes doing one job. Rebuild them in Uplup as a single quiz that mixes the formats, either by hand in the builder or by pasting the exported questions into the AI generator, which also accepts a PDF or document if that’s what you have.

  3. 3

Translate passmarks and rules into scoring modes

A Fyrebox passmark becomes a pass/fail threshold, per-answer points carry across directly, and multi-scoring categories map to personality outcomes or scored ranges. Rules that redirected participants or showed a result page by score become Uplup result pages tied to score bands, with the email gate set to required or skippable in front of them.

  4. 4

Reconnect your list and swap the embeds

Point your email platform at the new quiz using any of Uplup’s 23 native CRM and email connections, or wire anything else up over Zapier, n8n, webhooks, or the REST API. Then replace the Fyrebox embed on your site and in your funnel pages with the Uplup one; it’s a paste-over, not a redesign.

  5. 5

Overlap for a week, then time the cancellation

Keep the Fyrebox versions live while the Uplup quizzes carry the traffic, and watch completions and opt-ins across a week. Fyrebox lets you cancel at any time, so once the new numbers hold, cancel just ahead of your next billing date.

Common questions

Yes. The free plan allows 3 quizzes with 10 questions each, 3 AI credits a month, and 100 responses (their page doesn’t state a reset period), with Zapier and ChatGPT generation included and the Fyrebox logo shown on your quizzes. It’s a real way to test the tool. Uplup’s free plan takes a different line: no quiz or question caps, 10 AI credits a month, and 50 responses each month.
