Live interactive preview - try it out!
Ten questions, four possible results, and an estimated three to five minutes from first answer to last. That is the entire footprint of this template, and the small size is deliberate: nobody needs a forty minute inventory to learn when their brain works best. Each question drops you into a familiar scenario, a day off with no alarm, a 4 p.m. coffee invitation, a 6 a.m. flight, and the pattern in your answers sorts you into one of four energy types: Early Lark, Daytime Hummingbird, Night Owl, or Light Sleeper.
The template ships ready to run on Uplup's free plan, and every question, answer option, and result page can be rewritten before you send it anywhere.
The Lark, the Hummingbird, the Owl, and the Light Sleeper
Early Lark is the before-sunrise engine. The result page tells Larks to guard their mornings, put focus work and big decisions before noon, and stop fighting the evening slump. Fading at 9 p.m. gets reframed as spending energy exactly when it exists, not as being boring.
Daytime Hummingbird covers steady energy that crests from late morning through mid afternoon. The template calls it the most common pattern, the metronome most schedules were built around, and the advice is to book hard thinking into that midday window while pushing admin to the edges of the day.
Night Owl gets the opposite counsel: keep mornings for low-stakes tasks, move focus work and creative sessions into the late afternoon and evening, and build a genuine wind-down ritual so a productive night does not quietly slide toward 2 a.m.
Light Sleeper is the honest fourth option many chronotype quizzes skip. It covers people whose energy depends heavily on how last night went and whose sleep reacts to noise, light, stress, and late caffeine. Its result page recommends noting your best hours for a couple of weeks, then scheduling demanding work into whatever window shows up most often. It also states plainly that the quiz is self-observation, not sleep medicine, and that persistent bad sleep belongs with a doctor or sleep specialist.
A walk through the ten scenarios
Every question puts the taker in a concrete situation instead of asking them to rate themselves on an abstract scale. The opener reads: "It is a day off with nothing on the calendar and no alarm set. When do your eyes actually open?" From there the quiz moves through scheduling one genuinely hard task, the state of your battery after dinner, weekend sleep versus weekday sleep, that 4 p.m. coffee offer, what happens between pillow and actual sleep, picking a slot for a big interview, surviving a chatty housemate ten minutes after waking, the night before a 6 a.m. flight, and the rhythm your days would settle into if no job ever dictated your hours again.
Each scenario offers four answers, one voiced for each type, so takers tend to recognize themselves ("I communicate in nods and grunts for the first hour") long before the result appears. Questions arrive in a fixed order, skipping is off so every answer feeds the outcome, and anyone can step back to revise an earlier choice. A progress indicator shows how much remains. There are no points and no pass mark; the scoring is purely personality based.
Who actually sends this quiz
Coaches assign it before a first session: knowing whether a client is an Owl or a Lark changes when you schedule accountability check-ins and deep work blocks. Productivity writers embed it in articles and newsletters, where an interactive three minute quiz holds attention far longer than another essay about morning routines. Wellness programs fold it into wellbeing weeks, giving employees a low-pressure way to rethink meeting times around real energy instead of default calendars.
Switch on the optional lead capture step and the quiz doubles as a list builder. Response analytics show how takers split across the four types and how each individual question was answered, and everything exports to CSV. Webhooks and Zapier can push new responses into whatever tools you already run.
Make it yours before anyone sees it
Everything in the template is editable: reword scenarios, cut or add questions, rewrite the four result pages in your own voice, or rename the types entirely if Lark and Owl do not fit your audience. Add a logo and match the palette to your site. Retakes are switched on out of the box, which suits this quiz; plenty of people answer once honestly and once as the person they wish they were. A conversational mode is there if you prefer a chat-style flow over standard pages.
Links, QR codes, embeds, and a WordPress shortcode
A published quiz lives at a shareable link you can post anywhere, print as a QR code for slides or handouts, or push straight to social. An embed snippet places it on any site, and if your site runs WordPress, the Uplup plugin's shortcode gets it into a post or page without touching code. Whichever route takers arrive by, their responses land in the same dashboard.
Who Is This Template For?
This template works for a wide range of goals and industries.
Coaching intake
Send the quiz to new clients before a first session so accountability check-ins and deep work blocks get scheduled into the hours where each client actually has energy, whether that is a Lark's early morning or an Owl's late evening.
Newsletter and blog engagement
Productivity writers embed the quiz in a post or email as an interactive three to five minute break. Readers get a shareable result, and with lead capture turned on the article quietly grows the list at the same time.
Workplace wellbeing weeks
Wellness programs use it as a light-touch conversation starter about meeting times and focus hours. No medical framing and no pressure, just a ten question nudge toward scheduling work around real energy instead of default calendars.

Personality Results
Early Lark
Your engine turns over before most people have found their coffee, and your sharpest thinking happens in the first half of the day. Guard your mornings fiercely: put focus work and big decisions before noon, exercise early if you can, and start winding down when the evening slump arrives instead of fighting it. You are not boring for fading at 9 p.m. You are simply spending your energy exactly when you have it, which is a quiet superpower.
Daytime Hummingbird
You are the most common chronotype: no dramatic dawn peak, no midnight surge, just steady, dependable energy that crests from late morning through mid afternoon. Schedule your hardest thinking for that window, save admin and errands for the edges of the day, and use a consistent bedtime to keep the whole rhythm humming. Flexible, adaptable, and rarely the one yawning through a meeting, you are the metronome most schedules were built around.
Night Owl
Your brain does not really report for duty until the afternoon, then keeps improving while everyone else fades. When you can, push focus work and creative sessions into the late afternoon and evening, keep mornings for low-stakes tasks, and give yourself a genuine wind-down ritual so a productive night does not quietly become a 2 a.m. one. Owls built more of the world after dark than they ever get credit for.
Light Sleeper
Your energy does not follow one clean curve. It depends heavily on how last night went, and your sleep is sensitive to noise, light, stress, and late caffeine. Treat yourself as a subject worth observing: note your best hours for a couple of weeks, schedule demanding work in whatever window shows up most often, and protect your evenings with a calm, screen-light wind-down. This quiz is self-observation, not sleep medicine, so if poor sleep is genuinely wearing you down, a doctor or sleep specialist is the right next step.
