The Horror Movies Quiz is a ten question trivia template that runs from Hitchcock to Pennywise, takes about six minutes, and scores out of 100 with a pass bar at 60. It is rated medium difficulty, which in practice means casual fans will clear it and completists will argue about the two hard ones.

What the ten questions cover

The quiz mixes four question formats, so it plays less like a worksheet and more like a round of bar trivia. Five multiple choice questions carry the core canon. "Who directed 'The Shining' (1980)?" and "What is the name of the killer in the 'Halloween' franchise?" sit at the friendly end. "Which horror film was the first to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars?" is tagged hard for a reason, and the answer settles arguments. Two true or false statements check whether people actually know their Psycho and Child's Play basics. Two select-all questions award partial credit: one asks which of five options are real horror subgenres, the other asks which actors appeared in Scream (1996), with Jennifer Love Hewitt planted as the trap. A dropdown asks for the release year of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which is where a lot of confident people quietly lose ten points. Every question is worth ten, and after you submit, the results page shows the correct option for every question with a short explanation, so even a wrong guess leaves the taker knowing more than they did.

For October calendars and horror podcasts

Say you run a horror podcast, a movie blog, or the social account that has to fill 31 days of October. This template is a ready made engagement piece: drop the link in your show notes the week you cover slashers, or schedule it as your mid-month post when the pumpkin content starts to blur together. The leaderboard is switched on by default, so a Discord server, Patreon feed, or newsletter audience can treat it as a standings race through the month. Nothing about the quiz expires on November 1, either. Horror fans argue about Kubrick year round.

How the scoring plays out

Ten questions at ten points each make a clean 100 point scale, and 60 is the pass line, so six solid answers get someone through. Partial credit on the two checkbox questions softens the edges: picking three of the four correct subgenres earns most of the points instead of none. On your side of the dashboard, score analytics and per-question breakdowns show exactly where takers fall down, which tells you something about your audience. If everyone misses the Best Picture question, that is your next podcast segment. Results export to CSV whenever you want the raw numbers.

Ways to get it in front of horror fans

Share the quiz by link or QR code, post it straight to social, or embed it on your own site with a copy and paste snippet. WordPress users can place it with a shortcode through the Uplup plugin. If you want more than bragging rights from the traffic, add a lead capture step so takers leave a name and email before their score, then push entries wherever you work through webhooks or Zapier.

Change the questions, keep the dread

Every part of the template is editable. Swap the canon questions for your niche, whether that is giallo, found footage, or the A24 era, and the scoring logic comes along for free. Raise the pass bar to 80 if your audience calls itself hardcore, allow retakes or lock them out, toggle the progress bar and back navigation, and put your logo and colors on the whole thing. The cover page currently asks "Are you brave enough?", and you can rewrite that too. Start from the template as written for a solid classic horror round, or gut it and rebuild it scene by scene. Either way, the hard part, a quiz engine with scoring, explanations, and a leaderboard already wired up, is done before you open the editor.
