"What is the capital of Australia?" splits a room every time. Half the takers say Sydney, a few hold out for Melbourne, and the right answer, Canberra, was picked in 1908 as a compromise between the two rivals. That is the territory this template lives in: facts people half-remember, close calls, and a handful of genuine surprises.
The World Geography Quiz runs 10 questions across capitals, deserts, rivers, oceans, and country trivia. It takes most people 6 to 10 minutes, sits at a medium difficulty, and scores out of 100 points with a 70-point pass mark.
Three question formats, ten chances to slip up
The quiz mixes single-choice, true or false, and select-all formats. Single-choice items cover the largest country by land area (Russia, at more than 17.1 million square kilometers), the deepest ocean, and which African country was once called Abyssinia. True or false statements handle the near-misses, like whether the Amazon outstretches the Nile. It doesn't; the Nile is slightly longer, though the Amazon moves far more water. The select-all questions raise the stakes by asking takers to identify every Asian country in a list of five, or to pick the world's longest rivers from options that include the 346-kilometer Thames as a decoy.
Every answer triggers instant feedback with a short written explanation, so a miss becomes something learned rather than just a lost point. Question order shuffles for each taker, which keeps answer-sharing between classmates from working too well.
How the 100 points shake out
Each question carries 10 points, and 70 is the line for a pass, so takers need seven correct to clear it. There's no clock running on this one; people can sit with a tricky select-all as long as they like, skip it and circle back, or step backward to reconsider an earlier answer while a progress indicator tracks how far they've come. A leaderboard is switched on in the default settings, which turns a solo knowledge check into a standing competition, and retakes are on too, so a 60 doesn't have to be anyone's final word.
Teachers, hosts, and map obsessives
Geography and social studies teachers use it as a unit review or a Friday challenge, with the built-in explanations doing some of the reteaching for them. Trivia hosts and pub quiz organizers pull it up as a ready-made round. Travel brands and tour operators run it as an engagement piece, adding a lead capture step so an entertained taker becomes a subscriber. Response analytics then show how every single question performed, which tells a teacher exactly which fact the class never absorbed.
Redraw the map before it goes out
Everything in the template is editable: rewrite questions, swap answer options, change point values, or move the pass mark up to 80 for a harder bar. You can toggle the leaderboard, shuffling, skipping, and retakes independently, and dress the quiz in your own logo and color palette. When it's ready, share it by direct link or QR code, post it to social, embed it on any site, or drop the Uplup plugin's shortcode into a WordPress page. Results land in your dashboard with a question-by-question performance view and a CSV export, and webhooks or Zapier can push completions wherever else they need to go. The template lives on Uplup's free plan, so trying all of this costs nothing.

Key Features
100-point scoring with a 70-point pass mark
All 10 questions are worth 10 points each, and 70 points clears the bar. Adjust point values or raise the passing score to make the quiz stricter or more forgiving.
Instant feedback and explanations
Each answer triggers immediate feedback plus a short explanation, like why Canberra beat Sydney and Melbourne to become Australia's capital. Wrong guesses turn into retained facts.
Shuffling, skipping, and back navigation
Question order randomizes for every taker, and takers can skip a stumper, return to it later, or step back to change an earlier answer. Each setting toggles independently.
Leaderboard and retakes
A leaderboard ranks scores out of the box, and retakes are enabled so takers can chase a better result. Switch either off for a one-shot formal assessment.
