"What is the main leavening agent in a souffle?" If you said beaten egg whites, you're off to a strong start. This scored quiz asks 10 questions about desserts, pastry, and the techniques behind them, and most takers finish in about six minutes. Every correct answer earns 10 points, and each question carries a short explanation, so people walk away knowing why ganache needs hot cream and why meringue never needs butter.
From choux pastry to proofing yeast, what gets asked
The formats vary on purpose. Six questions are single choice, including "What type of pastry is used to make eclairs?" and a prompt on the meaning of mise en place. Two are true or false statements, one on red velvet cake's signature color and one on tempering chocolate. The final two ask takers to select every correct option: picking the French pastries out of a lineup that sneaks in cannoli and baklava, then naming the ingredients that actually belong in meringue.
Difficulty is rated medium. Casual bakers will clear the technique questions comfortably, but the select-all rounds catch plenty of confident people, and knowing tiramisu comes from Italy is not the same as knowing what proofing yeast actually proves.
Who hands out a dessert quiz
Bakeries and cafes treat it as light social content: post the link or print a QR code by the register and let regulars compete. The leaderboard is switched on out of the box, which turns a one-off quiz into a small standing contest. Culinary schools and community baking classes use it as a warm-up or an end-of-course check, since the explanations do some teaching on their own.
Trivia hosts borrow it wholesale as a food round. There's no clock attached, so it runs fine at a relaxed pub pace, and food newsletters sometimes add a lead capture step so people share an email address before seeing their score.
Swap in your own showstoppers
Nothing here is locked. Rewrite questions around your own menu, change point values to raise the stakes on harder items, or trim the quiz down to a quick five. Add your bakery's logo and color palette so the whole thing looks like yours rather than a stock template.
Sharing works however your audience does: a direct link, a QR code, an embed on your site, or a shortcode from the Uplup WordPress plugin that places the quiz inside any post. Responses flow into analytics with a question by question view of where takers stumble, and a CSV export covers anything you want to study in a spreadsheet. The template lives on the free plan, so trying it costs nothing.
