Accessing Design Settings
Design settings live in the left sidebar of the form builder, not in a top-nav tab. To open them:
- Open your form in the builder (the Create tab is the default landing tab).
- In the left sidebar, scroll past the field groups and click the Design accordion to expand it.
- The Design panel shows five sections in this order: Theme, Colors, Font, Layout, and Images.

The five top tabs across the top of the builder are Create, Logic, Connect, Share, and Results. Design is part of the Create tab’s left sidebar, so any styling changes auto-save with the rest of the form.
Theme Library & AI Theme Studio
Click the orange Choose Theme button at the top of the Design panel to open the Theme Library. The library is split into three areas:
- AI Theme Studio – Describe the look you want in plain language (“calm coastal wedding”, “fintech dark dashboard”) and Uplup generates a custom palette, font, and button style. Click Build Theme with AI to start.
- Create Your Own Theme – The Save Current Style button stores your current colors, font, and layout as a reusable custom theme that appears under My Custom Themes.
- Preset gallery – 24 ready-made themes across 18 categories (plus an “All Themes” view).

The 24 Preset Themes
Default, Vibrant Pink, Professional Blue, Nature Green, Minimal Gray, Warm Orange, Midnight Dark, Sunset Gradient, Ocean Breeze, Royal Purple, Cherry Blossom, Forest Moss, Tech Neon, Vintage Cream, Ice Crystal, Autumn Harvest, Candy Shop, Corporate Slate, Tropical Paradise, Lavender Dreams, Golden Hour, Deep Space, Rose Garden, and Mint Fresh.
Theme Categories
Filter the gallery by category in the left rail of the modal. Available categories:

Resetting a Theme
Once a theme is applied (or you’ve made manual edits), a Reset button appears next to Choose Theme. Reset restores the default styling, clears any uploaded background photo and logo, and removes the active theme.
Colors
The Colors section exposes five color swatches. Each uses a built-in color picker (HEX, RGB, eyedropper):
- Background – Page background behind the form.
- Text – Updates body text, heading, and question text colors together.
- Button – Submit and navigation button fill color.
- Button Text – Label color on buttons.
- Accent – Used for checkbox/radio accents and link color.
Changing a swatch by hand will clear the active preset theme name from the Choose Theme button so you can keep iterating without losing track of customizations.
Font
The Font section has two controls:
- Font family – Searchable dropdown with the full Google Fonts list. Each option previews in its own typeface so you can compare at a glance.
- Text Size – Slider from 10px to 24px (default 16px) controlling base body font size. Headings scale relative to this.
There is one global font for the form. There are no separate weight or heading-size pickers in this panel; weight is determined by the chosen theme and field type.
Layout
Layout Type
Pick one of three container styles:
- Card (default) – Bordered form on a background, with a subtle shadow.
- Clean – Borderless, transparent form container that blends into the page background.
- Split – Form on one side, image panel on the other. Split is only available when the form is set to card-form presentation mode; you’ll see two layout options instead of three for typeform-style flows.
Button Shape
Three options in a segmented toggle:
- Round – Slightly rounded corners (default).
- Square – Sharp corners.
- Pill – Fully rounded ends.
Form Width
Hidden when the layout is set to Split. Otherwise pick from four presets:
- S – 500px
- M – 700px (default)
- L – 900px
- Full – 100% of the available width
Images (Background & Logo)
The Images section accepts uploads for two slots:
- Background – Page background photo. Hidden when the layout is set to Split (Split uses its own side image instead). Drag-and-drop or click to upload.
- Logo – Brand logo shown in the form header. Recommended formats: PNG or SVG with a transparent background.
Background options in Uplup are color or photo. There is no pattern background, no user-selectable gradient background, no custom CSS, no print stylesheet, and no dark-mode toggle in the form builder; instead, pick a dark preset theme (Midnight Dark, Deep Space, Tech Neon) or use the AI Theme Studio.
Tips for Great Form Design
- Start from a theme. Pick the closest preset, then tweak the five color swatches – it’s faster than building from scratch.
- Save reusable styles. Once you’ve matched your brand, click Save Current Style in the Theme Library so the rest of your team can apply the same look in one click.
- Keep contrast high. The Text and Background swatches should have enough contrast to stay readable; don’t fight your theme on this one.
- Match form width to context. Use S (500px) for embeds, M (700px) for standalone share links, and Full for hero-style landing pages.
- Preview on mobile. Use the Preview button (top-right of the builder) and resize the window to confirm everything looks right at smaller widths.
