The Variety Playhouse has a slightly sloped main floor, so even if you're at the back of the room, your view is still pretty good. That's definitely a plus as far as shorter people are concerned. There are a couple of rows of seats at the back but these don't come close to filling the huge concert space. Big name indie and rock bands are the acts who grace this stage, and the atmosphere when the house is full are second to none.
