The Laboratory is a curious place next to a Taco Bell in Gainesville. Desscribed as a "Cafe of Science!", it is one part restaurant, one part bar, one part hangout spot, and one part live music spot. It's mostly local and experimental/electronica bands that play there, but they have a lot of theme nights and special events. They have open mic nights for both music and comedy, as well as a monthly "Nerd Night" and "Goth Night". It's definitely something off the beaten path as far as venues go, but for someone looking for a change in pace, it can't be beat.
