The Freebird Live is a legendary venue, that remains co-owned by the widow of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant. Over the years, many bands have played here on their way up the ladder, including local boys Limp Bizkit. It's a popular place for local acts too, and its proximity to the water makes it more laid-back than most venues of a comparable size. It's another long room, so if you're at the back, the view can be pretty poor. And I noticed once that the X that they stamp on the hands of under-21s is done very emphatically and largely in permanent marker. Those youngsters will be wearing those X's for days afterwards. Still, the sound is good and the crowd is friendly.
